Microsoft’s Surface tablet is now open for pre-order on the official Microsoft website. Places on the list for for pre-order are Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom and the United States. Sadly India is not on the list. The tablet will begin shipping on 26 October.
The price of the 64GB tablet with the black Touch Cover which also doubles up as as Keyboard will cost $699. The 32 GB version of Surface will cost $599 with the Touch Cover and $499 without the Touch Cover. This pricing is only for the Wi-Fi version of Surface and the tablet has no 3G or 4G support. Microsoft has not yet revealed whether future versions of the tablet will support 3G.
Surface has a 10.6-inch display with 1366×768 resolution at 148 pixels per inch. It also has Nvidia Tegra 3 processor with 2GB RAM. The tablet is available for now in 32GB and 64GB
Surface will also come pre-loaded with a beta version of Office 2013 Home and Student which will get an upgrade for the final version later in the year
The Surface has two 720p HD cameras on the front and rear. It also has a USB port and supports the Bluetooth 4.0.
The tablet will officially be released on 26 October.
Bonus: It seems that the Surface tablet can become a pretty useful skateboard. According to AllThingsD, Sinofsky and Microsoft are working hard to show the durability of the device.
